VP College Consulting
Biography
Vicki Vrooman Petersen is a Kansas City native, who graduated from Barstow School and received her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Missouri. Soon after, she met her husband, who’s career as a Naval Officer took them to San Diego and Virginia Beach, during which time she earned her Master’s in School Counseling from Old Dominion University, and served for 5 years as high school career counselor in Chesapeake, VA. She returned to Kansas City in 2005 and started a 17-year career as a counselor at Blue Valley North High School, the last 12 years as counseling department chair.
Vicki transitioned from school counseling in June 2023 to college admissions consulting, with the launch of VP College Consulting. She supports students throughout the Kansas City metro and the U.S. with the college planning and application process.
Vicki has spoken at the Heart of KC National Charity League and is a regular contributor to the Village Presbyterian Church VillageU programming and Compassion Fix Coaching and Counseling class offerings, speaking on college admissions-related topics. She was honored to serve as a KC Scholars application reviewer in the 2025 and 2026 application season, and is excited to be joining Church of the Resurrection's BBM's speaker series in Fall 2026.
Vicki has two sons who graduated from Blue Valley High and a daughter who is a senior at Blue Valley Northwest. Vicki enjoys traveling, throwing Oscar Night parties, and trying all the escape rooms throughout KC.

Turning Confusion Into Confidence
As a high school counselor for 22 years, I saw firsthand the increasing complexity of the college admission process and how overwhelming it can be to busy families who want their child to maximize their admissions opportunities, but worry they are missing important steps. Families clearly needed more support than what a school counselor, with 350 students, and a long list of other responsibilities, could realistically provide.

I am a member of Independent Education Consultants Association (IECA), an interactive community of 2,800 members world-wide, that provides professional development, group college tours, and on-going discussion to stay on the forefront of the evolving state of college admissions. It’s like having access to the wisdom and experience of thousands of college consultants!
I work in-person with local students in my home in Overland Park, KS, and via Zoom for those who prefer virtual or who are not as close geographically.
I would love to be your partner in this exciting stage of your family's life.

As an independent education consultant, my goal is to demystify the admission process. I guide students through every step from identifying their interests, strengths and aspirations, and making intentional choices to prepare for the competitive landscape, to developing a balanced college list, and a compelling application. Together, we make informed decisions to stay competitive in today’s college admissions landscape.
That's why I founded VP College Consulting.
