ABOUT ME

Biography

Vicki Petersen is a Kansas City native, who graduated from Barstow School and received her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Missouri. She spent 20 years in San Diego and Virginia Beach following her husband’s career as a Naval Officer, during which time she earned her Master’s in School Counseling from Old Dominion University and served for 5 years as high school career counselor in Chesapeake, VA. She returned to Kansas City in 2005 and started a 17-year career as a counselor at Blue Valley North High School, the last 12 years as counseling department chair.

Vicki transitioned from school counseling in June 2023 to college admissions consulting, with the launch of VP College Consulting. She supports students throughout the Kansas City metro and the U.S. with the college planning and application process. Vicki has spoken at the Heart of KC National Charity League luncheon and is a regular contributor to the Village Presbyterian Church Village U programming, speaking on college admissions-related topics. Vicki was honored to serve as a KC Scholars application reviewer in the 2025 application season.

Vicki has two sons who graduated from Blue Valley High and a daughter who is a sophomore at Blue Valley Northwest. Vicki enjoys traveling, throwing Oscar Night parties, and trying all the escape rooms throughout KC.

As a high school counselor for 22 years, I saw firsthand the complexity of the college admission process and how overwhelming it can be to busy families who want their child to represent themselves in the most positive light and maximize their admissions opportunities, but worry they are missing key aspects of this process. With years as the lead counselor at Blue Valley North High School, named Best College Prep School in the Kansas City Metro Area, as well as the state of Kansas, by Niche.com,  I have been fortunate to work with some of the region's most academically talented students, as well as those whose talents shine in a variety of areas from leadership to social to problem solving and beyond.

As an independent education consultant, I am now able to bring all my focus to my passion for assisting families in demystifying the college application process. I offer a personalized, detailed roadmap to all stages of the college exploration, preparation and application process.

I work with each student to identify their interests, strengths and aspirations, and help them develop a balanced college list and a compelling application to stand out in the eyes of admissions representatives.

I guide students through every step of the process to make informed decisions in today's competitive admissions landscape.

I would love to be your partner in this exciting stage of your family's life.
